The first challenge is to find somewhere to build the boat. The only realistic option that I have is in my single garage. Renting somewhere would potentially give more space however I don't want either the additional expense or to have to 'commute' to the project. The two important questions are:

  1. Will the boat fit in the garage? And,
  2. Will it fit out of the garage?

The answers to each are 1. yes, just, I think, and 2. no, not quite, but I can make it happen, I think.

The garage is 6m x 3m which gives just about sufficient width and almost enough length (on the basis that I can park the boat right up to the garage door to give 20cm working space at the front of the boat and I can open the garage door to get at the transom (although I will have to remember to make any transom-attached parts either removeable or just not attach them until I relocate the boat).

One concern that I do have is whether the up-and-over door will clear the transom if the boat is right up against the door.

The other problem is the width of the garage door. The final hull width is 2270mm ±10mm, the garage door is 2280mm wide but there are 15mm lips either side, meaning the opening is about 2250mm, wihch is between 10mm and 30mm too narrow, depending on build tolerances. That means that the garage door will need to come off to get the boat in/out. Either that or I get the garage door replaced with a roller-type door which could be slightly wider.

The absolute first thing to do though, is to clear the garage out so that I can get some better measurements.
